New Member Profile - Dr. Javier Rodrigo-Ilarri

Executive Secretary - South Europe Region

Dr. Javier Rodrigo-Ilarri from Spain has been appointed to be the new Regional Secretary for Southern Europe.  The appointment was made by the Presidential Council to replaced Christos Tentzerakis (Greece), who resigned.  The motion was approved without objection.

Professor Ilarri is currently on faculty at the University of Valencia, where he received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 2004.  Since October 2008, he has been at the Karl-Eberhards University in Tubingen, Germany, where he is a member of the university’s chamber choir Camerata Vocalis.



Dr. Ilarri brings a wealth of cultural expertise and organizational skills to IOV.  From 1984 to 1991, he studied music and piano at the Valencia Conservatory of Music.  Since then, he has been an active member of choral groups, including the Sant-Yago University Choir of Valencia, serving as its president from 1992 to 1998. 

With the support and encouragement of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Dr. Illari has arranged international concert tours for Sant-Yago to Brazil and Argentina (1995 and 1997), Russia (1991), Canada (1992), England (1993), China (1994), South Africa (1995), Australia and New Zealand (1996), and Austria (1998).  In 2002, he founded the Choir of the Technical University of Valencia and was its president from 2004 to 2008.

In 2002, s a member of the Spanish Choir Federation National Youth Choir, Ilarri represented Spain in the Europa-Cantat Festival in Nevers, France.  In the same year, he co-founded the vocal ensemble Matersaule.”  Dr. Ilarri was co-organizer of the Music Festival “Millenium Pace [peace?], which took place in Valencia in 2003.  He now serves the university as its Director of Museums and Donations.
