Olvin Valentin, Chair of the IOV Youth Commission, is President and Editor-in-Chief of the Puerto Rican quarterly publication IDentidad Magazine. The magazine focuses on arts and culture and is targeted to appeal to younger audiences. He plans a related television show and a new edition of the magazine for Mexico.

Olvin is the Marketing and Administrative Director of Guamanique, Inc., a cultural arts group. He has been in this position the past nine years and is responsible for developing educational and cultural programs. In addition to joint projects with the Department of Education, Olvin has implemented initiatives in school, theater and national cultural tours.

As a member of a Puerto Rico based folk dance company, Olvin has participated in international folkloric festivals, cultural exchanges and worskhops in over 22 countries. He has been responsible for making the arrangements for the company when it tours abroad. He has also made the arrangements for performing companies coming to Puerto Rico and was the organizer of a festival featuring national and international folk dance troupes.

Olvin graduated with a B.A in Business Administration and Marketing. He is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, where he works on the Legislation and Advocacy Committee and the Young Entrepreneurs Committee. He is a founding member of Red de Festivales de America y el Caribe, headquarter in Ecuador and continues to serve as a member of its board of directors.

Olvin continues his education studying law at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and will graduate with a Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) in 2011. He was appointed to the IOV Legal Commission in 2009 and will serve until the next General Assembly in 2011. He is a member of the IOV Executive Board. He recently participated in the board’s biennial meeting in Manila, Philippines, where he was appointed Chair of the newly established Caribbean Sub-region.
