The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has identified 40 IOV member experts in the field of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). These individual’s names are now part of the database maintained by UNESCO. The announcement was made at the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at its third session from 22 to 24 June 2010.
Experts identified by UNESCO must have expertise in at least one of the domains named in the Convention and agree to be available to UNESCO for consultation should a need arise in an area where the individual has expertise and training.
Experts may be sought by UNESCO in order to facilitate the making of national inventories and identifying projects in urgent need of safeguarding.
