Central and Eastern Europe Region
Professor Wieslaw Krajka has been elected to serve as the Regional Executive Secretary for Eastern and Central Europe. Dr. Krajka replaces Peter Marko of Hungary, who resigned earlier this year.
Dr. Krajka’a extensive scholarly publications include seven books, including Isolation and Ethos: A Study of Joseph Conrad (East European Monographs Boulder - Columbia University Press, 1992), Joseph Conrad: Konteksty Kulturowe (Lublin: Uniwersytet Marii Curie-Sklodowskiej, 1996), and On the Analysis of the Literary Text (Warszawa: Państwowe Wydawnictwo Naukowe, 1984, co-author: Andrzej Zgorzelski).
He is the Editor of the series: Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives, published by East European Monographs/Social Science Monographs, Boulder, and Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin, and distributed by Columbia University Press, New York (18 volumes published to date).
Within this series, he was the sole editor of volumes 8 (Joseph Conrad: East European, Polish and Worldwide), 13 (A Return to the Roots: Conrad, Poland and East-Central Europe), 14 (Beyond the Roots: The Evolution of Conrad’s Ideology and Art) and a co-editor of volumes 1 (Conrad’s Literary Career), 2 (Contexts for Conrad), 10 (Conrad at the Millennium: Modernism, Postmodernism, Postcolonialism) and 11 (Conrad in Africa: New Essyas on “Heart of Darkness”).
He was the principal organiser of four international Conrad conferences at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland (in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006).
He was a Visiting Professor (five times) at University of Minnesota Minneapolis, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Rochester New York.
