Dear IOV members and friends,
I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the project. Many of the answers to questions we are commonly asked are found in the preceding article and in the notes that follow. Thank you for your interest and support.
Dr. Ruzica Soldo
We kindly ask for support and financial help so that we could realize our project which includes the nature reserve for very rare and original Bosnian- Herzegovinian domestic animals. These animals present the cultural and natural heritage of our country; that´s why we would like to preserve them from extermination. There has been just very few number of this breed left and putting them into nature reserve is the only way to conserve them for the future.
Connecting all the institutions named below, Bosnia and Herzegovina is included in global process, not only as an observer, but also as an actor. This procedure is especially important because we take part in rescuing these animals from extermination and preserving the animals which were the part of our lives through the centuries. With this project we connect the scientific institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and we will keep “the door opened” for all interested institutions, all kinds of cooperation
and partners from all over the world.
The nature reserve would primarily keep the special kind of cows, so called “busa”-the original Bosnian-Herzegovinian breed-, the miniature donkeys and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian breed of horses.
The institutions included in this project are:
--Federal Ministry of Agriculture and forest
--Federal Ministry of tourism and environment
--College of Veterinary medicine of Sarajevo-University
--College of Veterinary medicine of Zagreb-University
--Agricultural College of Mostar-University
--Agricultural College of Zagreb-University
--Institution for Veterinary medicine, Mostar
--Institution for tourism – West Herzegovina Region
--Institution for tourism - Hercegovacko-Neretvanska Region
--Municipality of Siroki Brijeg
--West Herzegovina Government
The costs of building the nature reserve and keeping the animals are very high; that´s why we seek the cooperation and assistance of many different institutions, partners and individuals to take part at this project and support it. In return, we will always recognize thel institutions and other sponsors who/which helped us realize this project.
The nature reserve would also have an educational and scientific purpose-the pupils and the students would have a chance to see these animals, learn more about them and their value, with the aim of preserving biodiversity on the earth. We would also like to stress that no scientific or any other experiments would be done on the animals. They will live freely and happily in their natural environment.
Future plans include a Mediterranean Botanical Garden, a Museum of Cultural Heritage, and a Living Farm. With this project, we will preserve the Intangible Cultural Heritage of our people.
